BreastScreen Central, in Lower Hutt New Zealand, connects to the national mammography archive

The mammography provider BreastScreen Central in Lower Hutt is now connecting their image management solution (PACS) to the national mammography archive provided by the IT and medical technology company Sectra (STO: SECT B).  The central archive allows BreastScreen Central easy access to images regardless of their origins enabling immediate comparison of current and prior examinations regardless of where the woman was previously screened.

BreastScreen Central has been using Sectra PACS for management of their mammography images since October 2012. The images will now be migrated to the national archive.

“Sectra PACS has shown to be easy to use and adaptable to our needs as both a breast screening and symptomatic breast service,” says Dr James Wellwood, Senior Radiologist at BreastScreen Central. “It is also compatible with our RIS which provides a smooth and efficient mammography workflow. Connecting to the central archive will make images also from other mammography sites available to us, further enhancing our mammography service.”

The national archiving solution is vendor neutral and enables connection with any PACS. Additional benefits reached by connecting Sectra PACS to the archive involve even faster transfer of images through Sectra RapidConnect technology.

BreastScreen Central’s main mammography site provides both the screening and symptomatic services. Together with a mobile unit and two remote sites, BreastScreen Central screens approximately 25,000 clients a year and approximately 1,500 symptomatic cases are handled.
