Sectra’s CT-based Micromotion Analysis (CTMA) enables high value quantification and visualization of bone or implant movement using standard CT’s. With Sectra CTMA it is possible to measure three-dimensional motion of an implant or bone fragment on CT images taken at different time periods or weight bearing vs non weight bearing on a submillimeter scale. This data offers researchers and implant manufacturers a reliable predictor of the implant’s long-term durability. The system can be used for clinical testing of new implants as well as for research projects aimed at improving the results of existing implant technology, design, and surgical techniques.

Implant migration at two years is predictive of the ten-year survival of an implant model. Such migration measurements used to require specialized and expensive RSA labs but can now, with a new technology called Sectra CT-based Micromotion Analysis (CTMA), be done using standard CT's.

Compatible with standard CT

When using CTMA in clinical trials, you simply use standard CT and low dose protocol when acquiring the images. CTMA requires no specialized imaging equipment and is therefore a simple procedure for staff to follow. The tool can be used on most implant models without any need for special marking of the implants or bone. The surgeon can use the CTMA system to generate accurate data that can be used to analyze the movement of an implant or bone segment over time, or under load.

The system can be used for trials of new implants as well as for research projects aimed at improving the outcome of existing implant technology, design and surgical techniques. Since standard CT equipment can be used, it is easy to acquire patient images and gather patient data from different hospitals.
