Sanford Health’s enterprise imaging journey

In this webinar, listen as Steve Thompson, Director of Clinical Initiatives, describes the vision, planning, and execution of Sanford Health — the largest rural healthcare system in the U.S., which stretches across 26 states — to make the idea of consolidating all medical images in one enterprise imaging system a reality.

Sanford Health is one of the largest health systems in the U.S., comprising 44 hospitals, 482 clinics, 1,382 physicians, and nearly 50,000 employees. Consolidating to one enterprise imaging system was a large task and the project began five years ago. The IT team set in motion a plan to replace five disparate and aging PACS with one enterprise imaging system. It was a strategic initiative, not an IT implementation. They set out to consolidate their four regions on one platform tightly integrated with their EMR and other key tools. They started off with radiology and, a few years later, it was time to bring cardiology into the fold. The initiative also opened the doors for a new VNA, strengthening orthopedics with 2D/3D functionality, and mammography and digital pathology are on the roadmap.

After watching this webinar, you will:

  • Acquire a knowledge of the planning and vision that went into creating a single-vendor, consolidated enterprise imaging solution.
  • Understand the benefits realized by physicians and patients from an enterprise-wide workflow, fully integrated with the Epic EMR.
  • Realize the key learnings and crucial steps and buy-ins required from stakeholders to achieve a consolidated enterprise imaging model.

This webinar was aired and recorded during the SIIM 2021 Virtual Meeting on May 25, 2021.
