Workflow-centric solution vs. scanning workstations

The pathology workflow is still almost exclusively based on manual examinations of tissue samples under a microscope. The technology and knowledge for a full-scale digitization of pathology is now available, and will contribute major efficiency and quality gains to pathology as a discipline, but also to the entire field of cancer care. This document aims to review the advantages and disadvantages of a workflow- centric solution for image management in digital pathology, compared with the workstations that come with the purchase of a scanner.
